Jenna Whitaker, LMHP, PLADC, Director, School Mental Health Program

Brené Brown is quoted as saying, “If we share our story with someone who responds with empathy and understanding, shame can’t survive.” Empathy and understanding will be the foundation of our therapeutic relationship. I view therapy as a collaborative process in which we work together in a safe, nonjudgmental, and supportive environment. I utilize empathy and understanding to connect with my clients and develop ways to improve their functioning.

I am passionate about working with young people struggling with depression, anxiety, conflict resolution, grief, stress, and life transitions. I utilize Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I also incorporate Motivational Interviewing and mindfulness techniques to lead to a more individualized approach. I am trained in TF-CBT, DBT, Seeking Safety, and Trauma Informed Care.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner and Provisionally Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from College of Saint Mary and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Doane College. I currently work as a therapist in Catholic Charities’ School Mental Health program providing school-based mental health services to elementary and high school students throughout the Omaha Archdiocese. Furthermore, I am the Director of our School Mental Health Program providing supervision and support to the behavioral health team.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading, traveling, cleaning, and cheering on the Creighton Bluejays and the Iowa State Cyclones. I attend Saint Patrick Catholic Church.

I am currently in St. Vincent de Paul School.
